Get answers to common questions about Dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation using a sterile surgical blade to gently remove dead skin cells and vellus hair. It instantly smooths texture, improves radiance, and allows better product absorption. Treatments are quick and suitable for many skin types after consultation.
Dermaplaning is generally safe for many, but not recommended for active cystic acne, open lesions, or severe rosacea. Sensitive skin may benefit from a patch test and gentle technique. Our estheticians assess skin and recommend alternatives when necessary.
A standalone dermaplaning session at La Ritz typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, including consultation and post-treatment care. When combined with a customized facial, expect up to an hour for cleansing, treatment, serums, and guidance on aftercare.
No — vellus hair does not grow back thicker or darker after dermaplaning. It grows back the same fine texture; any blunt tips may look slightly more visible initially but soften quickly with normal growth and time.
For most clients we recommend dermaplaning every 4 to 6 weeks to maintain smoothness and optimize results. Frequency can vary by skin type, hair growth, and treatment goals; your esthetician will create a personalized maintenance plan.
Avoid retinoids, chemical peels, waxing, and aggressive exfoliation for at least 48–72 hours before and after dermaplaning. Protect skin from sun exposure, use gentle skincare, and follow your esthetician's aftercare advice to prevent irritation and ensure healing.
